Rome

I find it hard to characterize Rome. The familiar attractions—Vatican City, the Flavian Amphitheater (Coliseum), the Forum—are as spectacular as one would expect. And the Trevi Fountain is breathtaking. But Rome doesn't have the same character as other Italian cities. The city primarily exhibits low urban sprawl, with new buildings next to (and around) ancient ruins, and bits of unexplained antiquity everywhere. Oddities abound. For example, the building in which Caeser was assassinated in 44 BC is now a cat sanctuary!
